Australia’s new T20I captain Mitchell Marsh is recovering from a hamstring injury sustained while playing in the IPL.
Australia’s newly appointed T20I captain, Mitchell Marsh, is in a race against time to recover from a hamstring injury and be fully fit for the upcoming T20 World Cup. The tournament kicks off on June 6th for Australia in the USA and the West Indies, with Australia’s first match against Oman in Barbados.
Marsh has not played since April 3rd due to the injury sustained while playing for the Delhi Capitals in the IPL. He returned to Perth for rehabilitation under the supervision of Cricket Australia and was subsequently ruled out of the remaining IPL season.
“If the World Cup started tomorrow, I’d be in trouble. I’m still a couple of weeks away from full fitness. However, the timing seems alright barring any setbacks. I should be on the plane and ready to go,” Marsh admitted to reporters in Perth on Thursday.
Marsh expressed optimism about his recovery, stating, “The hamstring feels good and is progressing well. It’s exactly where we want it to be at this stage. The key is to manage it properly over the next three weeks and be ready to fly out.”
The T20 World Cup will be Marsh’s first major tournament as Australia’s full-time T20 skipper. “It’s a huge honor. Captaining Australia at a World Cup doesn’t happen every day, and I’m very excited. But the strength of our team lies in the number of excellent leaders we have,” he added.
While concluding, Mitchell Marsh radiated confidence and emphasized the importance of maintaining a consistent approach and positive team spirit for the upcoming World Cup. He acknowledged the extensive planning already underway and stressed the need for a relaxed environment where players can perform to their full potential.
