Aakash Chopra questioned Mitchell Starc’s bowling performance during KKR’s IPL 2024 victory against RCB, urging Kolkata fans to provide honest reviews of Starc’s season.
In a video on his YouTube channel, Aakash Chopra criticized KKR’s Mitchell Starc for his bowling performance in their IPL 2024 win against RCB, despite the team securing a one-run victory. While he praised Harshit Rana, Sunil Narine, and Varun Chakaravarthy for their performances, he questioned whether Starc deserved criticism.
Chopra urged Kolkata fans to provide honest reviews of Starc’s season and not to react negatively to constructive criticism. He encouraged fans to express their opinions openly and reflect on players’ performances objectively, rather than dismissing valid critiques.
“Harshit Rana – a performance deserving thumbs up with both hands. Sunil Narine – a performance deserving thumbs up with both hands. Varun Chakaravarthy bowled an over where he conceded only five runs. Harshit Rana came for the next over and he too bowled a six-run over,” Chopra said.
“You can criticize that we shouldn’t talk this and that about Mitchell Starc, but if you are a Kolkata fan, tell me what you feel about Mitchell Starc this season. Give an honest review on whether you were happy with what you saw. If you are not happy, then if someone else is criticizing and showing the truth in the mirror, don’t take your ire on him. In the end, 21 runs were required in the last over. He kept third man and point inside the circle and was bowling wide yorkers to Karn Sharma, and Karn hit him for three sixes. He took an excellent caught-and-bowled, actually the match turned from there, or else it would have been over,” he added.
Chopra also praised Phil Salt for his aggressive start in KKR’s batting innings and credited RCB bowlers for targeting Sunil Narine effectively. He commended Shreyas Iyer, Rinku Singh, and Andre Russell for their valuable contributions to the team’s total. However, the former cricketer highlighted Ramandeep Singh’s unbeaten 24 off 9 balls as the decisive factor in the match. He emphasized the significance of uncapped Indian players, noting Ramandeep’s crucial partnership with Russell, which took KKR to victory in just 2.4 overs.
