England men’s cricket team has unveiled squads for both ODI and IT20 matches against New Zealand, featuring both returning players and promising uncapped talents in the two squads of fifteen.

England’s ODI team welcomes back Ben Stokes, who has reversed his retirement choice, and introduces uncapped Surrey pacer Gus Atkinson in the 15-player squad.

The sudden return of Stokes has added a substantial boost to England’s preparations for the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023, with coach Matthew Mott expressing his intent to utilize Stokes as a specialist batter in the ODI series against New Zealand.

The lineup for the four-game Vitality IT20 Series against the Blackcaps features three newcomers to the 20-over format: Atkinson, Tongue, and Turner. Tongue debuted in the LV= Insurance Test against Ireland this summer, while Hampshire’s Turner secures his inaugural spot in the England squad.

England Men’s National Selector, Luke Wright, expressed his excitement stating, “We have been able to name two extremely strong squads that underline the depth of talent we enjoy in white-ball cricket. The return of Ben Stokes only adds to that quality with his match-winning ability and leadership. I am certain that every fan will enjoy seeing him back in an England ODI shirt again.”

“We’re also excited to give first international call-ups to both Gus Atkinson and John Turner while Josh Tongue has deserved a place in the T20 squad after impressing during the Ashes. Any series against New Zealand is closely fought and will provide us with an ideal opportunity to test ourselves against one of the best teams in the world,” Wright added.
