Punjab Kings’ stand-in skipper, Sam Curran, expressed regret, offered apologies to fans, and acknowledged their elimination from playoff contention.
The Punjab Kings’ IPL dreams were dashed after their loss to Royal Challengers Bangalore on May 9th. This defeat marked their eighth loss in just 12 matches, officially eliminating them from playoff contention. With only a few games remaining, it’s mathematically impossible for them to reach the qualifying mark. Stand-in skipper Sam Curran took responsibility and apologised to fans for their disappointing performance.
At the post-match presentation, Curran apologised but also shared some of the positives about the team they gained throughout the tournament. Curran was especially proud of the Punjab Kings chasing down the highest-ever score in IPL history earlier this season. “We had some highs and some record run-chases as well. Lots of disappointment, and I apologise to the fans; we will keep fighting. The ups and downs have been quite tough, but you gotta keep learning and keep working hard,” Curran said.
Even after the disqualification, Curran did not lose hope, as he vowed to fight harder and learn from his mistakes. “There were a lot of positive signs throughout the season, but not enough to get over the line, unfortunately. We knew that we had the best side for the rest of the tournament and felt gutted for the team. We have to keep our heads up, keep learning, and keep becoming better. I really enjoyed leading a great bunch of guys; I would have loved a few more wins,” Sam admitted.

RCB thrashed the Punjab Kings by a massive 60 runs, keeping their playoff hopes alive. Virat Kohli led the charge for RCB with a stellar 92-run knock. He received valuable support from Cameron Green and Rajat Patidar, who chipped in with crucial contributions. Despite picking up Patidar’s wicket, Sam Curran leaked runs for PBKS, conceding 50 in his 3 overs.
Chasing a daunting total, the PBKS batting order faltered. Even Curran himself couldn’t contribute much with the bat, scoring only 22 runs. RCB’s bowlers capitalised on the opposition’s struggles, ensuring a dominant 60-run victory.
Punjab will next head to Guwahati for their outing against the Rajasthan Royals on May 15th.
