The match between the Rajasthan Royals and Lucknow Super Giants on April 27th saw a thrilling chase where RR skipper Sanju Samson played a captain’s knock alongside Dhruv Jurel to secure a comfortable victory for his team with six balls to spare.
Opting to bowl first, the Rajasthan Royals (RR) got off to a dream start as they dismissed the dangerous Quinton de Kock cheaply in the third ball of the Lucknow Super Giants’ (LSG) innings. Sandeep Sharma continued the good work for RR, removing the in-form Marcus Stoinis for a duck. Captain KL Rahul, however, held the fort for LSG, playing a crucial knock of 76 runs off just 48 deliveries. He stitched together a valuable 115-run partnership with Deepak Hooda to provide some much-needed stability to the LSG innings.
Sandeep Sharma was the pick of the RR bowlers, taking two crucial wickets and conceding only 31 runs in his four overs. While Trent Boult managed to pick up a wicket, he proved expensive, leaking 41 runs in his four overs.
In the second inning, chasing a target of 197 set by Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), the RR openers (Yashasvi and Buttler) started off decently, putting up 60 runs off 35 balls. However, both openers fell in quick succession during the sixth and seventh overs, dismissed by Marcus Stoinis and Yash Thakur, respectively. Riyan Parag also failed to capitalise on the early momentum, leaving RR in a slightly risky position.
Fortunately for RR, captain Sanju Samson (71) and Dhruv Jurel (52) stepped up to the challenge, forming a match-winning partnership. Their unbeaten stand ensured a comfortable win for the Royals with six balls to spare. While LSG bowlers Amit Mishra, Marcus Stoinis, and Yash Thakur managed to pick up a wicket each, they were unable to contain the relentless onslaught from Samson and Jurel.
This victory marks RR’s eighth win in nine matches, potentially securing their spot in the playoffs. Their next challenge comes on May 2nd against the Sunrisers Hyderabad.
