Delhi Capitals bowler Rasikh Salam was reprimanded for breaching the IPL’s Code of Conduct during his team’s win over the Gujarat Titans.
Delhi Capitals pacer Rasikh Salam’s fiery celebration during his team’s narrow four-run victory over the Gujarat Titans in an IPL 2024 match on Wednesday night landed him in trouble. While Salam was the star performer with the ball, bagging three crucial wickets for 44 runs in his four overs, his on-field behaviour drew a penalty.
The IPL issued a statement stating that Salam committed a Level 1 offence under Article 2.5 of the league’s Code of Conduct. “He admitted to the offence and accepted the match referee’s sanction,” the statement added. Article 2.5 deals with “language, actions, or gestures that disparage or could provoke an aggressive reaction from another player.” In simpler terms, it refers to a player’s actions directed towards a dismissed batter that could be seen as disrespectful or overly aggressive.
This includes any celebration or gesture, regardless of the batsman’s reaction, that might be interpreted as belittling or provoking them. Thankfully, there were no reports of an altercation on the field.

Earlier this season, KKR’s Harshit Rana was also fined for breaching the same code of conduct because of a disrespectful and aggressive celebration hurled towards the SRH player Mayank Agarwal after his dismissal.
Despite the reprimand, Salam’s bowling played a key role in Delhi’s victory. With the Titans needing 37 runs to win in the 19th over, captain Rishabh Pant entrusted the ball to Salam. Although he conceded 18 runs in that over, Salam delivered a crucial blow by dismissing Sai Kishore and ending the over cheaply.
The win marked Delhi’s fourth of the season, propelling them to the sixth position in the IPL points table. They will be facing the Mumbai Indians on April 27th.
