Sanjay Manjrekar emphasized the importance of selecting KKR’s consistent performer Rinku Singh for the T20 World Cup, highlighting his potential to seamlessly integrate into the Indian cricket team.
Rinku Singh’s explosive batting performances in the IPL, particularly as a finisher for KKR, have garnered attention, but his limited opportunities and recent injury have raised concerns. Despite not reaching triple figures this season, his impressive strike rate highlights his potential. However, Singh’s absence from fielding duties and sporadic appearances as an Impact Sub have fueled speculation. When questioned about his absence, Singh attributed it to a minor injury, expressing readiness to return fully against RCB.
Former cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar advocated for Rinku’s inclusion in the Indian T20 squad, citing his consistent performances and versatility. Manjrekar emphasized his ability to seamlessly fit into the team, urging selectors not to overlook his potential amidst discussions about established players.
“Because he’s not getting many opportunities, I hope selectors won’t forget about Rinku Singh,” Manjrekar told Firstpost.
“He’s a straight walk-in into the Indian team. Every time he has got the opportunity, you’ve seen how good he can be, in the sense of his consistency and the range that he has. He’s somebody who I like, apart from the core of the Indian team, apart from the big names we are thinking about,” he added.
Rinku Singh boasts an impressive T20I record, tallying 356 runs at a staggering strike rate of 176.23 in 15 matches, with a noteworthy average of 89 runs. However, in the race for the T20 World Cup squad, it was earlier reported that either Shubman Gill or Yashasvi Jaiswal might miss out, potentially leaving only one slot for finishers Rinku Singh or Shivam Dube.
