Aakash Chopra expressed concern over Rishabh Pant’s lack of peak form ahead of the DC vs GT match, urging him to bat higher in the order and contribute more significantly.
Former Indian cricketer Aakash Chopra has cast a shadow of doubt over Rishabh Pant’s return to peak form ahead of the Delhi Capitals’ (DC) upcoming clash against the Gujarat Titans (GT) in the IPL 2024.
In a video uploaded to his YouTube channel previewing the match, Chopra identified skipper Pant as a key player for the Delhi Capitals who needs to find his top form.
“I am thinking about Rishabh Pant once again. It’s like a broken record. You can bat slightly up the order because these battles need to be won from the front. You are batting well. You cannot say the vintage Rishabh Pant is back. It takes time. At times you feel that he is back, and then you feel it will take a little time,” remarked Aakash, as quoted by Sportskeeda.
He then went on to compliment the keeper’s abilities behind the stumps but reminded him to bat well besides making the right decisions as the captain. “A little game of hide and seek is going on. However, Rishabh Pant, the captain, and Rishabh Pant, the batter—there is no doubt that he is keeping well—will be important in this match. He should make the right decisions, come at the right number, and then bat well,” said Chopra.
Chopra’s comments highlighted the concerns surrounding Pant’s current batting form. While the young captain has shown flashes of brilliance, consistency remains shifty. So far this season, the Delhi skipper has managed to bag 254 runs with a decent strike rate of 150.30 in the eight matches he has played.
As the Capitals gear up for their crucial match against the Titans on April 24th, all eyes will be on Pant to see if he can translate his leadership qualities into a match-winning batting performance.
