Delhi Capitals’ skipper Rishabh Pant has added to the debate of the ‘Impact Player’ that visibly shifts the momentum of a game.
After their recent win against the Mumbai Indians on April 27th, the Rishabh Pant-led side has pushed themselves to the fifth position on the IPL points table, still continuing their dream run for the IPL playoffs. However, despite their thrilling win by 10 runs, Rishabh acknowledged the constantly growing threat from the ‘Impact Player’ Rule.
During the post-match presentation, Rishabh opened up about his team’s performance but also subtly put in his share of thoughts for the currently debated impact player rule. “We were pretty happy with 250 on the board, but with impact sub, it is getting difficult each and every day,” Pant said at the post-match presentation ceremony, as quoted by News 18.
Surprisingly, he is not the only one who has been voicing concerns about the impact sub. Recently, DC’s director, Sourav Ganguly, has also commented on it. “The Impact Player rule is something that needs to be looked at. With an extra batter, teams are taking more risks against the bowlers, leading to even higher scores,” suggested Ganguly to the press.
However, Rishabh and Co. successfully contained MI batters on Saturday’s match, and when the skipper was asked about what made the bowling side work, he added positively, “Definitely, I can keep up to the stumps, but the bowler also should be confident… with batters like Tim David walking down, and today it worked.”
With the ongoing debate about the impact and prominent voices like Rohit Sharma, David Miller, and Shubman Gill speaking out their concerns, the IPL’s governing body has assured the cricket fraternity to re-discuss it after the IPL 2024 ends.
