Reportedly, Rohit Sharma recently met with the selector’s panel for the T20 WC squad and discussed Hardik Pandya’s status regarding a spot.
With the T20 World Cup fast approaching, the Indian cricket team’s selection committee is busy finalising the squad. In a recent meeting between captain Rohit Sharma, head coach Rahul Dravid, and chief selector Ajit Agarkar, a key decision was made regarding all-rounder Hardik Pandya’s participation.
According to a report in The Indian Express, the meeting, held at the BCCI headquarters in Mumbai, largely focused on selecting the fast-bowling all-rounders for the World Cup.
While Hardik Pandya is a strong contender for the spot, his bowling performance in the ongoing IPL season has become a major concern for the selectors. The Mumbai Indians skipper, Pandya, has only bowled 11 overs in six matches, taking just three wickets with a concerning economy rate of 12 runs per over.
The team management is hoping that Pandya regains his bowling rhythm. His ability to swing the ball and deliver powerful blows makes him a valuable all-rounder, adding crucial balance to the team’s batting and bowling attack.

Notably, the selection committee is also keeping a close eye on other potential candidates, but options seem limited. Shivam Dube, who is having a good season with the bat for the Chennai Super Kings, has not been utilized for his bowling. While his batting prowess is impressive, his lack of recent bowling experience makes him a doubtful contender.
Nevertheless, the selectors are expected to meet again later this month to finalize the World Cup squad. Meanwhile, India will be kicking off their T20 World Cup campaign on June 5th against Ireland.
