Sam Curran, the stand-in skipper for PBKS, expressed joy over their historic win, joking about the high-scoring trend in IPL and highlighting his team’s resilience despite recent losses.
In a thrilling match at the Eden Gardens, Punjab Kings secured a remarkable 8-wicket win over Kolkata Knight Riders in the 2024 IPL season. Despite KKR’s imposing total of 261 runs, PBKS made history by chasing it down with 8 wickets and as many deliveries to spare, marking a significant win.
Stand-in skipper Sam Curran expressed his joy over the team’s resilient performance after four consecutive losses. He humorously noted the high-scoring trend in the IPL, likening cricket to baseball. Curran also credited his team’s determination, training, and favorable conditions for their success.
“It is very pleasing. Most importantly the win. Cricket is turning into baseball,” Curran said.
“We have had a few tough weeks. But we hung in there. The way the guys train, the confidence the coaches provide, the small grounds and the dew, the reviews that might give you an extra ball, all play a part. We hung in there and managed to chase it down with balls to spare,” he added.
Curran further expressed delight at Bairstow’s return to form and praised Shashank Singh for his consistent performances, calling him the standout player of the tournament for their team.
Jonny Bairstow’s explosive innings of 108 runs off just 48 balls, including 8 fours and 9 sixes, was the highlight of the match, taking his team to a formidable total. Shashank Singh’s unbeaten 68 off 28 deliveries and Prabhsimran Singh’s quickfire 54 off 20 balls provided crucial support in the chase of 262 runs.
