KKR’s captain Shreyas Iyer faced a significant penalty of Rs 12 lakhs for the team’s slow over rate in their IPL 2024 match against RR, marking their first offence of the season.
KKR’s Shreyas Iyer got hit with a Rs 12 lakh fine for their sluggish over rate in the recent IPL clash with RR at Eden Gardens. This marks their first offense this season under IPL’s Code of Conduct for slow over rates. The official statement clarified that Iyer’s penalty was in accordance with IPL regulations.
“Shreyas Iyer, the Kolkata Knight Riders captain, has been fined after his team maintained a slow over rate during their TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 match against Rajasthan Royals at Eden Gardens on April 17,” the statement read.
“As it was his team’s first offence of the season under the IPL’s Code of Conduct relating to a minimum over rate offences, Iyer was fined Rs 12 lakhs,” it added.
In the nail-biting match on Monday, April 16th, Rajasthan Royals pulled off a remarkable victory against Kolkata Knight Riders in what turned out to be IPL’s biggest run chase to date. Initially put into bat, KKR’s Sunil Narine took center stage with a blistering 56-ball century, taking his team to a formidable total of 223/6 in 20 overs. Narine’s explosive innings dominated the top-of-the-table clash at Eden Gardens, where KKR seemed in control.
However, RR’s Jos Buttler had other plans. Despite RR finding themselves in dire straits at 121/6 in the 13th over, Buttler’s sensational unbeaten century scored off just 60 balls, turned the tide. With an incredible display of power-hitting, Buttler single-handedly led the Royals’ charge, guiding them to a 2-wicket victory on the last ball of the match.
