Sunil Narine made history for KKR by hitting his first-ever IPL century, achieving the milestone while opening the innings and blasting an impressive 49-ball century with eleven fours and six sixes.

In the ongoing IPL 2024 match between Kolkata Knight Riders and Rajasthan Royals at Eden Gardens, Sunil Narine achieved a significant milestone, scoring his first career hundred. Opening the innings for KKR, he displayed remarkable batting prowess, smashing a 49-ball century with eleven fours and six sixes, surpassing his previous highest T20 score of 85.

Narine’s century has made him only the third KKR batter to achieve this feat, following Brendon McCullum and Venkatesh Iyer.  He eventually fell to Trent Boult in the 18th over, having smashed 109 in 56 balls.

Earlier, RR won the toss and chose to field. Despite RR’s strong bowling, KKR’s opening pair, Phil Salt and Narine, faced tough resistance. Salt got dismissed in the fourth over due to a brilliant catch by Avesh Khan. Narine, however, stabilized KKR’s innings, helping them reach 56/1 in the powerplay. Later, Angkrish Raghuvanshi joined Narine, and together they tackled Ravichandran Ashwin and Yuzvendra Chahal effectively. RR crossed the 100-run mark in the first 10 overs, showcasing a strong batting performance.

With 1313 runs in his IPL career at a striking rate of 165.16, including one hundred and five fifties, Narine has established himself as a strong batter. Additionally, as an offspinner, he has contributed significantly to KKR’s success, claiming 168 wickets in 168 matches at an economy rate of 6.73 and an average of 25.82.
