James Franklin believes that T Natarajan’s impressive IPL performance could lead to his swift return to the Indian cricket team despite his initial T20 World Cup exclusion.
Despite missing out on India’s T20 World Cup 2024 squad, left-arm pacer T Natarajan remains in the spotlight thanks to his stellar IPL 2024 performances, as highlighted by SunRisers’ bowling coach James Franklin. Franklin commended Natarajan’s proficiency in delivering yorkers, emphasizing its significance for the team.
Natarajan’s name was in discussions prior to the squad announcement but wasn’t included, with India opting for a three-man pace attack comprising Jasprit Bumrah, Arshdeep Singh, and Mohammed Siraj. The selection committee, led by Ajit Agarkar, also named Khaleel Ahmed and Avesh Khan among the four reserves for the World Cup.
Franklin acknowledged the abundance of talent in India, suggesting Natarajan focus on his strengths while maintaining consistency. Ahead of SRH’s crucial clash against MI, Franklin expressed confidence in Natarajan’s ability to contribute effectively to the team’s success.
“There are just so many quality players in India. He can only control what he can. His great strength is obviously his yorker bowling. That is where he is a huge asset for us as a team,” Franklin said.
“If he keeps going the way he is going and can hold his form throughout the rest of this IPL, those sorts of conversations around India, they tend to take care of themselves. If he keeps performing, then getting back in that Indian side won’t be too far away from it,” he added.
Injuries have hindered T Natarajan’s chances of consistent appearances for India since his debut across all formats during the 2020-21 Australia tour. His last international outing was in March 2021 against England. However, in IPL 2024, Natarajan has showcased his best form, remaining injury-free and claiming 15 wickets in 8 matches.
