Amidst ongoing debates about his strike rate, Virat Kohli, following his impressive fifty vs GT, robustly dismissed critics, emphasizing his focus on team victory over individual statistics.
Royal Challengers Bengaluru secured their second consecutive victory by defeating Gujarat Titans by nine wickets at Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi Stadium on April 28th. Virat Kohli, once again at the forefront, set the tone in the powerplay and remained steadfast until the end, silencing critics who doubted his strike rate and spin-playing abilities.
In a post-match interview, Kohli commended the resilience of Kiwi international Will Jacks, acknowledging his struggle initially but eventual explosive contribution. Kohli himself amassed 70 runs off 44 balls, putting an end to discussions about his strike rate. Addressing his critics, Kohli also emphasized his focus on team victory over personal statistics.
“Phenomenal! When Jacks came in to bat, he couldn’t strike the ball like he wanted to. But we know how explosive he can be. But he went after Mohit, and my role changed. I was just happy to be at the other end,” said Kohli.
”All the people who talk about strike rates and me not playing spin well are the ones who love talking about this stuff. But for me, it’s about winning the game for the team. There’s a reason why you do it for 15 years. You’ve done it day in and day out and won games for your team. I am not quite sure if you have not been in that situation yourself, to sit and speak about the game from the box, I don’t think that’s the same thing” added Kohli,” he added.

Kohli further responded strongly, indicating that the criticism stemmed from those unfamiliar with the pressures of professional cricket. “It’s about doing my job,” he emphasized, suggesting that only those who have experienced the rigors of the game truly understand. He ended by dismissing the chatter, asserting that cricket is second nature to him now.
