Yuvraj Singh has heaped praise on Virat Kohli and expressed his belief that Kohli can lead India to victory at the T20 World Cup.
Virat Kohli’s recent form has been impressive. He was the leading run scorer at the 2023 Cricket World Cup and is currently the top scorer in the ongoing IPL season. Yuvraj Singh, Kohli’s former teammate and currently the brand ambassador of the T20 World Cup 2024, expressed his thoughts that the RCB star can bring the trophy home for India. He highlighted Kohli’s ability to perform under pressure, citing his memorable knocks against Pakistan in the 2022 season and Australia in the 2016 season of the T20 World Cup.
Yuvraj Singh was particularly impressed by Kohli’s performance in the 2014 T20 World Cup, where he scored the most runs for India, and praised him for his skills and hunger to win matches. “He has definitely broken all the records in this era. The best batter of this generation. I feel, in all formats. And I think he is also someone who needs a World Cup medal. He has one. I’m sure he is not satisfied with one. I think he surely deserves that medal as well,” Yuvraj told ICC.
Yuvraj even praised Kohli for his self-confidence. “He knows if he’s there till the end, he is going to win the game for India, and he has done that on some big occasions—against Australia in Mohali as well,” Yuvraj added.
While India fell short in the 2014 final, Yuvraj believes Kohli has another shot at glory in the upcoming tournament. He pointed out that Kohli’s dedication to his craft, evident in his practice sessions, sets him apart from other players.

“Why I think he was so good was because every time in nets or a practice situation, he would not go and just slog balls. In the nets, he would always bat like he was batting in a match. He put that in repetition after repetition after repetition. I have not seen that in many players. I think that is the key to his success,” Yuvraj concluded.
With Kohli in top form and leading the batting line-up, India shows strong contention for the trophy. Rohit and Co. will be starting their campaign with their first outing against Ireland on June 5th.
