The match between Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Kolkata Knight Riders on April 21st was a nail-biting thriller, as the latter won by 1 run. However, the climax is not the only interesting thing, as the match saw Virat Kohli’s controversial dismissal and his feud with the umpires. KKR mentor Gautam Gambhir, too, engaged in a furious exchange with the umpires regarding the substitution decision of Sunil Narine.
It was the 18th over of the inning, and RCB was on the verge of scoring 31 runs off 12 deliveries. KKR captain Shreyas Iyer was seen gesturing towards his dugout after having a conversation with the on-field umpires. As the camera turned towards the KKR dugout, Gambhir was seen speaking to the fourth umpire heatedly, eventually leading to an argument. Watch the video below:
Later, it was revealed that KKR wanted Sunil Narine off the pitch to replace him with Rahmanullah Gurbaz. Narine had just finished his spell, and the team needed someone less weary to field in the final two overs. However, the umpires did not agree with KKR’s request, which left Gambhir furious.

Speaking of the climax, needing an improbable 21 runs off the final over bowled by Mitchell Starc, RCB’s hopes seemed dashed with Karn Sharma and Mohammed Siraj at the crease. However, Sharma defied the odds, smashing three towering sixes off the left-arm pacer to bring the equation down to a thrilling three runs required off the last two balls.
However, Sharma was dismissed by Starc himself on the very next ball. Lockie Ferguson, who had come in for the penultimate ball, could only manage a run before being run out on the final delivery, handing victory to the Knight Riders.
With the win, Kolkata regained their second position on the IPL points table, while RCB lingers at the bottom with seemingly no hope left for the playoffs.
