Rohit Sharma, renowned for his humorous responses, brought his jovial demeanor to the forefront during the squad announcement alongside BCCI chief selector Ajit Agarkar for the Asia Cup 2023.

Rohit’s joviality shone as he engaged with reporters, addressing inquiries about team composition and player roles. When questioned about the absence of batters who could contribute with a few overs, contrasting the 2011 World Cup-winning MS Dhoni-led team, Rohit playfully hinted that he and Virat Kohli might don the bowling hat in the upcoming World Cup. This cheeky response from the skipper filled the room with laughter.

“That was the team of 2011, they had individuals like that. You have to make do with what you have. We are giving those performers chances. We cannot overnight create someone who can bowl. All these guys are batters and they can score runs, that is why the are in the team. But hopefully, Sharma and Kohli can roll their arms over in the World Cup (laughs),” said Rohit.

India, having claimed six Asia Cup titles, will kick off their campaign against Pakistan in Kandy on September 2nd. Notably, in the previous edition, they failed to reach the final after defeats to Pakistan and Sri Lanka.
