The first Test of Ashes 2023 started on June 16. England won the toss and elected to bat first. England continue their Bazball approach against the World Champions Australia. England declared at 393/8 on Day 1 itself.
On Day 2, although Australia lost 3 wickets for just 67 runs, Usman Khawaja kept one side firm and was ticking away with runs. First he had the partnership with Travis Head, then Cameron Green and Alex Carey.
Usman Khawaja’s patient and resilient innings got Australia to a good fightback position as they ended on 311/5 on the end of Day 2.
During the press conference at the end of Day 2, the hero of the day Usman Khawaja went to the press conference with her 3-year old daughter. During the conference, Khawaja’s daughter was seen swiping the camera photos of one of the journalist’s phone that was kept on the table.
Usman Khawaja on seeing this said, “Stop swiping through the camera, It’s okay, It’s okay, you can do it later, you can play with Dad’s phone.” This incident made all the reporters burst into laughter.
