Yashasvi Jaiswal was handed his debut cap by vice-captain Suryakumar Yadav on Tuesday, August 8, ahead of the third T20I against West Indies at the Providence Stadium in Guyana.

Left-handed batter Yashasvi Jaiswal made his much-awaited debut for the Indian cricket team, replacing opener Ishan Kishan, who struggled in the first two T20 games with scores of 6(9) and 27(23). Jaiswal’s inclusion came after Kishan failed to register a fifty in his last 16 T20Is.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) shared a heartwarming video on their Twitter handle, capturing the special moment when vice-captain Suryakumar Yadav presented the T20I cap to Jaiswal, offering words of wisdom on this significant occasion.

“Congratulations on another feather in your journey. I know you have waited for a very long time to earn this. It’s my pleasure to give a cap to a Test player. Be yourself, be fearless,” said Suryakumar while handing over the cap, followed by an embrace between the two players as fellow teammates applauded the momentous occasion.

Yashasvi Jaiswal earned his place in the T20I squad for the five-game series against West Indies on the back of his exceptional performances for Rajasthan Royals in the Indian Premier League. The left-handed batter impressed with 635 runs in 14 matches, showcasing a remarkable strike rate of 163.61, with one century and five half-centuries.

Having recently made his Test debut against the same opposition, Jaiswal continued his brilliance, scoring an impressive 171 runs and tallying 266 runs in just two games.
