Abhishek Sharma heaped praise on teammate Travis Head, citing his unparalleled skill in playing spin, following their crucial win against LSG, where their partnership propelled them to a massive win.
Abhishek Sharma, the young opener for Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), lauded his teammate Travis Head’s exceptional ability to handle spin bowling, attributing their success to Head’s prowess as they secured a dominant 10-wicket victory over Lucknow Super Giants (LSG). LSG’s modest total of 165 runs, coupled with their meager 27-run Power-play score, was swiftly chased down by SRH in just 9.4 overs, thanks to the explosive batting display from Head (89 off 30) and Abhishek (75 off 28), propelling SRH to the third position in the IPL standings.
Speaking about their partnership, Abhishek expressed admiration for Head’s talent and camaraderie, highlighting their growing friendship off the field. Additionally, Abhishek credited his own fearless approach, honed during the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, for his remarkable performance against LSG.
“I don’t think anyone plays better spin than Travis. The shots he hit off K Gowtham, normally batters can’t do that, that shows how special he is. He’s very clear, whenever I talk to him, the way he compliments me, I have always been a big fan of him over the last year that I have followed him. When our understanding was established and our partnership improved, we became good friends off the pitch and have started spending more time,” said Abhishek on Jio Cinema.
“I think this approach was something I took on during the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. I feel when I play this way, look at the ball, and react, my shots come off better and the bowler comes under pressure. I always thought if I play in the IPL, I’ll try to maintain this. Our support staff and Pat (Cummins), the way they think, I have never seen anyone else think like that. They’re like, ‘Go out there and express yourself. Play as aggressively as you can, we’ll back you.’ I think that matters a lot,” he added.

Head and Abhishek have been outstanding this season, breaking records left and right. They notched the IPL’s highest powerplay score (125) against DC and recently chased down the highest target (166) without losing any wickets against LSG.
SRH, buoyed by their explosive batting, sits comfortably in third place with seven wins from 12 matches, totaling 14 points. Led by Pat Cummins, SRH will aim to secure their playoff berth by winning their remaining two games.
