BCCI fined Tim David and Kieron Pollard from the Mumbai Indians camp for breaching IPL’s Code of Conduct.
Mumbai Indians batter Tim David and batting coach Kieron Pollard have been fined 20% of their match fees for violating the IPL’s Code of Conduct during their match against the Punjab Kings on April 18th at Mullanpur.
A video from the match went viral, sparking controversy. It showed members of the Mumbai Indians dugout, including David and Pollard, allegedly giving batter Suryakumar Yadav unauthorised advice to challenge a wide call.
The incident occurred during the 15th over of MI’s innings. Arshdeep Singh bowled a delivery that was well outside the off-stump and possibly wide. Suryakumar Yadav, batting at 67 runs off 47 balls, attempted to play the shot, but the umpire ruled it a legal delivery.
Television cameras captured footage of MI’s head coach, Mark Boucher, gesturing to Suryakumar, indicating it was a wide ball. Following this, David and Pollard were seen urging Suryakumar to take a Decision Review System (DRS) review. However, players and coaching staff outside the field are not allowed to influence on-field DRS calls. Therefore, they were imposed a fine by BCCI.

“David and Pollard committed a Level 1 offence under Article 2.20 of the IPL’s Code of Conduct. David and Pollard were each fined 20 percent of their respective match fees. Both admitted to the offence and accepted the match referee’s sanction. For Level 1 breaches of the Code of Conduct, the match referee’s decision is final and binding,” an IPL release said on Saturday.
Meanwhile, the match was a thrilling one. Though Mumbai had the ball in their court within the first ten overs of Punjab’s innings, the batter Ashutosh Sharma’s heroic knock kept his team’s hope alive till the end. Nevertheless, Mumbai won the match by nine runs and secured their third win of the tournament.
