Rajasthan Royals captain Sanju Samson was fined for arguing with umpires after a disputed catch call in the IPL match against Delhi Capitals.
Rajasthan Royals captain Sanju Samson was fined 30% of his match fees for a heated argument with the on-field umpires during the IPL 2024 match against the Delhi Capitals on Tuesday. Incidentally, Sanju Samson was dismissed after a catch by Shai Hope. With Hope close to the boundary rope while taking the catch, the decision sparked debate.
Replays offered inconclusive evidence, leaving fans and experts divided. Samson was visibly upset with the decision and had a spat with the on-field match officials. BCCI reprimanded him and imposed a fine on him.
A statement from the IPL confirmed the fine: “Mr. Sanju Samson has been fined 30 percent of his match fees for breaching the IPL Code of Conduct during Match 56 […] against Delhi Capitals.” Samson admitted the offence and accepted the punishment.
Despite his dismissal, Samson’s knock of 86 runs remained a highlight. However, the Delhi Capitals secured a crucial victory in their IPL campaign. Half-centuries from openers Jake Fraser-McGurk and Abhishek Porel propelled DC to a strong total of 221. Their disciplined bowling attack then restricted the Royals, ensuring victory for the Delhi team.

“The way our bowlers executed at the back end was the main positive, and it was really good to see. We will try to learn from every game. Even when we lose or win, we will keep our heads down and keep moving forward,” said DC captain Rishabh Pant after the match.
RR booked their third loss of the tournament. They will be facing CSK on May 12th. Meanwhile, Delhi capitals will face RCB on May 12th.
