DC owner Parth Jindal’s animated appeal for a controversial catch during the IPL match against RR sparked online criticism.
The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 match between the Delhi Capitals (DC) and Rajasthan Royals (RR) on Tuesday was marred by a contentious catch decision. West Indies batter Shai Hope dismissed Sanju Samson, the RR skipper, for a well-made 86. However, replays showed the catch might have brushed the boundary rope while being grounded by Hope.
Displeased with the umpire’s call, Samson engaged in a heated discussion with the officials. The incident also drew the animated reaction of DC owner Parth Jindal, who was caught on camera aggressively appealing for the dismissal. Jindal’s reaction was severely criticised by fans online. Moving on to the match itself, DC rode on half-centuries from openers Jake Fraser-McGurk and Abhishek Porel to post a formidable 221 runs on the board. Their bowling attack then rose to the occasion, defending the total brilliantly.
In the post-match presentation, Sanju Samson acknowledged DC’s strong start: “The DC opener came out and played well, just like he has throughout the tournament. But we fought back well. We’ve lost three close games recently, and we’ve been playing some impressive cricket. We just need to make some minor adjustments and come back stronger.”
He also praised Tristan Stubbs, who played a crucial knock against RR’s best bowler, Sandeep Sharma. “Yes and no, you have to give credit to someone like Stubbs. He batted well against Sandeep, who’s been bowling exceptionally in recent matches. Stubbs managed to hit a few extra sixes off our best bowlers, Yuzi Chahal and Sandeep Sharma,” shared Sanju.

Taking responsibility for the loss, Samson concluded, “We’ve lost the game, and now we need to analyse where we went wrong. We have to learn from this and keep moving forward.” The loss marks RR’s third in the tournament. They will be facing CSK on May 12th.
