Reportedly, Rohit Sharma and the BCCI selectors will meet on April 28th to finalize India’s T20 World Cup Squad.
With the T20 WC fast approaching, the Board of Control for Cricket in India is gearing up to finalise the squad. Reportedly, chief selector Ajit Agarkar is expected to meet skipper Rohit Sharma on April 28th, after the IPL match between the Delhi Capitals and Mumbai Indians. This crucial meeting will focus on selecting the final team for the global tournament.
A provisional squad announcement is likely on the same day or the following day, with the official deadline for submissions being May 1st, as per Dainik Jagran. Several key positions in the team are up for debate, prompting close scrutiny from selectors.
The wicketkeeper’s slot has emerged as a major talking point. Jitesh Sharma, initially considered the frontrunner, has underperformed in the ongoing IPL season. This might open the doors to crowd-favourite Rishabh Pant, who has been performing well in the IPL. With Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma likely to solidify the top order, the number four position remains vacant. This vital batting spot will be a central theme of the selection discussions.

Meanwhile, Jasprit Bumrah’s place in the squad is undisputed. However, Mohammed Siraj, the projected second pacer, has struggled in the IPL. Therefore, the selection committee will have a tough job sifting the second bowler for the playing XI.
Hardik Pandya’s recent form in the IPL has also caused concern. The Mumbai Indians captain’s underperformance adds pressure to the selection process. However, India’s limited options for pace-bowling all-rounders could ultimately see Pandya retain his spot in the 15-member squad.
Recently, Rohit Sharma has denied any reports of meetings with the selectors and termed them ‘fake’. However, a meeting on April 28th seems more likely as the World Cup approaches and India will begin their campaign on June 5th.
