Michael Clarke suggested that Rohit Sharma’s recent decline in batting form during IPL 2024 may be attributed to fatigue, advocating for a potential break to rejuvenate his performance.

As the T20 World Cup approaches, concerns arise over Indian skipper Rohit Sharma’s form, particularly during the middle stages of IPL 2024, prompting former Australian skipper Michael Clarke to suggest fatigue as a factor. Despite a strong start, Rohit’s recent IPL performances have been lackluster, with four single-digit scores in the last five matches.

Clarke believes Rohit may need a break to rejuvenate, but acknowledged the challenges given his commitments as Indian captain and key player for Mumbai Indians. Rohit’s involvement in the recent England test series and ongoing IPL might have contributed to his fatigue, according to Clarke.

“Rohit, being the wise judge of his own performances, will undoubtedly be disappointed, especially considering his strong start. In my view, he might be feeling a bit fatigued as well. A break to freshen up could do wonders for him, but as the Indian captain and a key player for Mumbai Indians, you’re not getting a break. He’s going to have to find form,” Clarke said on Star Sports.

Rohit Sharma made a strong start in this IPL season, scoring 297 runs in his first seven innings. However, his performance dipped with only 34 runs in his next five innings, resulting in a total of 330 runs in 12 innings at an average of 30. His standout innings was a century against Chennai Super Kings, where he scored 105 runs off 63 balls, albeit in a losing effort. This century marked his second in IPL history, coming after more than 12 years.

Clarke also mentioned that despite his talent, Rohit might be disappointed with his recent performances, especially given his promising start. He highlighted the fine margins in cricket, noting how a slight difference in execution could result in varying outcomes.

“With someone like Rohit, it’s only a matter of time before he finds his form again. How many times do you see that exact ball go for six though? It happened to SKY. The exact same ball, exact same shot, except these went for six, Rohit gets out,” Clarke said.

“Hopefully, he stresses less and focuses on his game because he’s too talented to keep missing out. He’s at his best when he’s timing the ball, rather than trying to force it. He’s a great player, and I have no doubt he’ll bounce back soon. Let’s just hope it’s not at the World Cup again (said jokingly),” he concluded.
