In a recent development, the wicketkeeper-batter for the Chennai Super Kings, Devon Conway, has been ruled out of the IPL 2024, and the team has signed Richard Gleeson as his replacement. The talented cricketer was bought by CSK in the 2022 mega auction for Rs 1 crore, and he has played 23 matches for the team since then.
The Kiwi wicketkeeper-batter sustained an injury to his left thumb and was to undergo surgery. The recent media release from BCCI confirmed that the keeper will not be continuing his journey this season. “Devon Conway has been ruled out of the TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 due to an injury. Conway, who represented CSK over the course of the last two IPL seasons, played 23 matches and scored 924 runs, which included 9 half-centuries and a highest score of 92*,” read the report.

In his place, Richard Gleeson of England was signed in for Rs 50 lakh. The 36-year-old pacer has represented England in six T20Is and has nine wickets against his name. Additionally, Gleeson boasts 90 T20s in his stats and has also scalped 101 T20 wickets.
While it was already assumed that Conway was not going to join the CSK squad this year, there were speculations about his replacement. However, with MS Dhoni in the team, signing a pace bowler seems like an optimal choice, as the yellow camp’s star pacer, Mustafizur Rahman, would also leave after May 1st to resume his national duties.
