Recently, reports were circulating regarding Rohit Sharma meeting the BCCI selectors for the T20 World Cup squad, however, the skipper denied the baseless rumours.
Indian cricket team captain Rohit Sharma has dismissed reports claiming he met with selectors to discuss the T20 World Cup squad. The rumours suggested a meeting between Sharma, BCCI chief selector Ajit Agarkar, and head coach Rahul Dravid earlier in April.
“I haven’t met anyone. Ajit Agarkar is somewhere in Dubai playing golf, and Rahul Dravid is actually watching his kids play in Bengaluru,” Rohit told Michael Vaughan and Adam Gilchrist on the Club Prairie Fire podcast, as quoted by the Hindustan Times.
Sharma urged fans to rely on official sources for information on team selection. “I think in today’s day and age, unless you hear it from either myself, Rahul himself, Ajit himself, or someone from BCCI coming and talking in front of the camera, everything is fake,” he said.
The reports also speculated about potential team strategies, including Rohit Sharma opening the batting with Virat Kohli in the World Cup. These reports probably came after a strong performance by both Sharma and Kohli in the IPL. Currently, Kohli leads the IPL 2024 run-scorers list, while Sharma recently scored a century for his team, the Mumbai Indians.
Meanwhile, Team India will be looking to break their ICC trophy drought at the upcoming T20 World Cup, co-hosted by the West Indies and the USA, and will kick off their campaign on June 5th against Ireland at 8:00 p.m. IST.
