Ahead of RCB’s latest IPL 2024 clash against Punjab Kings, Faf du Plessis shed light on his close bond with teammate Virat Kohli. The former South African skipper revealed how their friendship extends beyond the cricket field, across mutual interests in food, fashion, and watches.
“We both love food,” Du Plessis revealed on Star Sports, highlighting their shared passion for culinary delights. Additionally, he said that they delve into discussions about fashion, exchanging outfit ideas and style preferences. “We both are really into our fashion. That’s another thing we spend a lot of time talking about. The way we dress, what style of clothes. We would send each other pictures of outfits and stuff like that,” admitted Faf.
However, Du Plessis humorously admitted to being influenced by Kohli’s likeness for watches, labelling him a “terrible influence” in that regard. “He’s been a terrible influence on me when it comes to watches, but he’s got a real passion for watches,” the 39-year-old said.
Their relationship extends beyond common interests, with both players having young families. Du Plessis reflected on how their similar life stages, with Kohli, recently welcoming his second child, created a strong connection between their wives and children.
On the cricketing front, Du Plessis and Kohli serve as the opening pair for RCB, leading the team’s batting lineup throughout the competition. Kohli emerged as the leading run-scorer of the season, amassing 542 runs, while Du Plessis follows closely with 352 runs, the second-highest for RCB.
The batting duo have been in top form this season. Their recent 92-run partnership against the Gujarat Titans was a key factor in RCB’s victory. This strong showing highlighted the good understanding between the two batters.
As RCB takes on Punjab Kings (PBKS) in Dharamsala on May 9th, Kohli and Du Plessis will be looking to maintain their excellent form. Their powerful partnership is crucial for RCB’s chances of reaching the IPL playoffs.
