Harbhajan Singh suggested a new batting lineup for Team India, proposing that Yashasvi Jaiswal and Rohit Sharma open, with Kohli shifting to No. 4, allowing Shivam Dube to come in at No. 3.
As the T20 World Cup squad selection nears, there’s a buzz about the squad selection. While Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and Jasprit Bumrah are shoo-ins, former spinner Harbhajan Singh has stirred the pot with a bold suggestion. He proposed a tactical shuffle in the batting order, advocating for Yashasvi Jaiswal and Rohit Sharma to open, while Kohli takes the number four spot.
Harbhajan argued for a left-right batting combo for a strong start, with the option of Shivam Dube at number three if needed. This move, he stressed, isn’t a slight on Kohli’s skills but a strategic adjustment for team benefit.
“I believe Yashasvi Jaiswal and Rohit Sharma should open for India, and Virat Kohli should come at no.3,” Harbhajan Singh said on Star Sports.
“I would like to see a left-right combination at the top. If 6-7 overs are played, and if we have a player like Shivam Dube, he can walk in at no.3. Kohli can then walk in at 4. We have to take the horses-for-courses approach here, and there’s no disrespect in that. Kohli is a great player, whether he plays at no.3 or 4, the team comes first. Even if you ask him this question, he will say the team comes first,” he added.
Shivam Dube has been a standout performer for CSK this IPL season, providing vital runs with his aggressive yet calculated batting style. With an impressive 311 runs in just 8 games at a strike rate of 169.95, he’s proven to be a game-changer in the middle overs. Meanwhile, Virat Kohli, despite RCB’s struggles, continues to shine with his class and experience.
