Mumbai Indians captain Hardik Pandya was fined Rs 24 lakh for his team’s slow overrate during their IPL match against the Lucknow Super Giants.
Mumbai Indians (MI) captain Hardik Pandya has been fined Rs 24 lakh for his team’s slow over rate during their IPL 2024 match against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) on Tuesday. This is MI’s second offence of the season, leading to a harsher penalty according to the IPL’s Code of Conduct.
“As it was his team’s second offence of the season under the IPL’s Code of Conduct relating to minimum over-rate offences, Pandya was fined INR 24 lakh,” the statement read.
“The rest of the members of the Playing XI, including the Impact Player, were each fined either INR 6 lakh or 25 percent of their respective match fees, whichever is lesser,” the statement added.
The hefty fines came amidst MI’s struggles this season. They slumped to their seventh loss in ten matches after being restricted to a modest 144 runs by LSG. Ishan Kishan (32) and Nehal Wadhera (46) and Tim David (35) were the lone bright spots in MI’s batting collapse.

LSG, in reply, chased down the target with four balls to spare. Marcus Stoinis’ (62) valiant knock propelled their chase forward. Unfortunately, he was dismissed by Nabi just short of Deepak Hooda in the previous over. The match came to a nail-biting finish as Nicholas Pooran and Krunal Pandya held their nerves to secure victory with four balls to spare.
This win propels LSG to the third position in the IPL 2024 points table, behind the Rajasthan Royals and Kolkata Knight Riders. They will play their eleventh match against KKR on May 5th. MI, however, slumps at the ninth position.
