MI fell short against KKR by 24 runs despite a strong bowling performance, with captain Hardik Pandya vowing to fight back in the remaining matches.
In a disappointing turn for Mumbai Indians fans, the team suffered another loss in the IPL 2024, falling 24 runs short against the Kolkata Knight Riders at Wankhede Stadium on Friday. The Kolkata Knight Riders batted first and set a target of 169 runs. Despite another valiant effort from their bowlers, Mumbai’s batting woes continued, as they were restricted to 145 runs all out.
Following the defeat, Mumbai Indians captain Hardik Pandya addressed the team’s performance. Notably, Pandya emphasised his determination to stay on the field and fight for his team, despite the string of recent setbacks.
Pandya started off by addressing the faults of the night. “I mean, obviously, in the batting innings, we could not form partnerships and kept losing wickets; and in T20, if you keep losing wickets, it’s always going to cost. Obviously there are a lot of questions, but I think that will take some time to answer,” said Hardik in a post-match interview.
On a positive note, he added that the faults will be corrected as MI has a couple of games left to redeem themselves. “I think the bowlers did a fantastic job; the wicket got a little better after the first inning, and the dew came on. We will go through the game and see what we could have done better. I mean, you keep fighting. That’s what I keep telling myself—never leave the battlefield. Tough days come, but so do good days, as long as you stay. Challenges are part of life, but they also make you better,” concluded Pandya.

In the match, the MI openers failed to give a decent start. Ishan Kishan and Rohit Sharma, along with Naman Dhir, were dismissed from the powerplay. Suryakumar Yadav, though, came in to salvage the chase and shifted the momentum towards MI temporarily. However, he was dismissed by Russell, which eliminated the team’s last hope of winning.
Currently struggling in the ninth position, Mumbai will have their next outing against Sunrisers Hyderabad on May 6th at Wankhede.
