In a recent interview, Glenn Maxwell revealed that he dropped himself out for the RCB vs SRH match on April 15th, considering his poor run in IPL 2024.

Glenn Maxwell ran through a string of underperformances for his team, the Royal Challengers Bengaluru, in all the matches that he played in the IPL 2024. Hence, it was not a surprise when he was dropped from April 15’s game against Sunrisers Hyderabad. However, in a recent development, Maxi told the reporters that he asked to drop himself out of the game.

At a post-match interview, Maxwell revealed that he asked to be dropped out to take a mental and physical break from the game. “After the first few games hadn’t gone as planned personally for me, it was a pretty easy decision. I went to Faf and the coaches last game and said it was time to probably try someone else. I have been in this situation before, where you can keep playing and dig yourself into a hole. Now is actually the best time to give myself a mental and physical break,” said Maxwell, as quoted by News 18.

With Maxwell’s unworthy performances in this IPL so far, he has not been able to contribute to his team. His scores in the six matches that he had played were 0, 3, 28, 0, 1, and 0, yielding an unimpressive streak for the individual.

“With our results this year, it was quite an easy decision. We haven’t been playing as well as we would have liked as a team, and the results show that. My personal results have reflected the results we have had. Pretty big deficiency straight after the powerplay and the middle overs, which have been an area of strength of mine the last couple of seasons,” added Maxwell.

“I felt like I wasn’t contributing in a positive way, and it felt like, with the position we find ourselves at the table, to give someone else the opportunity to try their wares, and hopefully, someone can make the spot their own,” concluded the all-rounder.

Though Maxwell dropped himself out for the SRH encounter, he might return to RCB’s playing XI soon, as the cricketer has not intended to exit this IPL season.
