KL Rahul, captain of Lucknow Super Giants, and Ruturaj Gaikwad, captain of Chennai Super Kings, were fined Rs 12 lakhs each for maintaining a slow over-rate during their match in the IPL 2024.
In the IPL 2024 match on April 19, Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) defeated Chennai Super Kings (CSK) by 8 wickets, with KL Rahul’s stellar 82-run performance leading LSG to victory. Despite a slow start, CSK’s MS Dhoni’s explosive batting contributed to their total of 176/6.
However, both captains, Rahul and Ruturaj Gaikwad of LSG and CSK respectively, were fined Rs 12 lakhs each for maintaining a slow over-rate during the game. This marked the first offense of the season for both teams under the IPL’s Code of Conduct.
“KL Rahul, Captain, Lucknow Super Giants has been fined after his team maintained a slow over-rate during Match 34 of the TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 against Chennai Super Kings at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium, Lucknow. As it was his team’s first offense of the season under the IPL’s Code of Conduct relating to minimum over-rate offenses, Rahul was fined INR 12 Lac,” the statement read.
“Mr Ruturaj Gaikwad, Captain, Chennai Super Kings has been fined after his team maintained a slow over-rate during Match 34 of the TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 against Lucknow Super Giants at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium, Lucknow. As it was his team’s first offense of the season under the IPL’s Code of Conduct relating to minimum over-rate offenses, Gaikwad was fined INR 12 Lac,” it added.
Speaking at the post-match presentation, Ruturaj Gaikwad expressed disappointment with CSK’s third loss in four away matches, feeling his team could have scored more runs despite a strong finish with the bat. He cited missed opportunities after the powerplay as a key factor.
LSG’s win over CSK on Friday did not alter the IPL 2024 points table but created a four-way tie between LSG, CSK, KKR, and SRH, all with 8 points each. KKR and SRH have played one match less.
