Marcus Stoinis revealed that MS Dhoni’s mantra helped him during his massive match-winning run chase against CSK.
Marcus Stoinis produced a masterclass knock to guide the Lucknow Super Giants to a remarkable victory over his former team, the Chennai Super Kings, in the IPL on Tuesday. Chasing a target of 211 runs at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, Stoinis smashed an unbeaten 124 off just 63 balls, securing the victory for his team.
The franchise acknowledged and appreciated Stoinis’ effort on social media. Later, In a video posted by the Lucknow Super Giants on social media, Stoinis shared Dhoni’s mantra for chasing big totals. “MS Dhoni told me this one thing. In big games, everyone thinks they have to do something extra, something different. But his mantra, how he speaks to himself, is that he stays there, he stands still, and he says everyone else is going to change. I’m going to be the only one here that doesn’t change, and that holds him ahead of everyone else,” said Stoinis.
Notably, Stoinis seemed to have implemented Dhoni’s mantra as he successfully chased the high-pressure, challenging total, unfazed. Later, Stoinis elaborated on his approach to batting during the post-match presentation. “In these tournaments, there are plenty of better opening batters than me, so I’ll leave it to them. It’s not just about going all-out aggressive all the time. There was a phase where I wasn’t able to hit boundaries, so it was great to have Nicholas Pooran come in and take the pressure off,” added Marcus.
