The Lucknow Super Giants defeated the Chennai Super Kings by 6 wickets in a narrow last-over thriller.

The match between Chennai Super Kings and Lucknow Super Giants saw the latter win the game by securing victory by six wickets and recording the highest successful run chase in IPL history.

Put to bat first, CSK opener Ajinkya Rahane departed in the first over for 1 run. However, the skipper, Ruturaj, held the inning with his valiant and unbeatable 108 off 60 deliveries. While all-rounders Ravindra Jadeja and Daryl Mitchell failed to capitalise, Shivam Dube, batting at number 5, provided a late flurry with a rapid 66 off just 27 balls. Dube and Gaikwad stitched together a crucial 104-run partnership to propel CSK to a strong total.

LSG pacers Matt Henry, Yash Thakur, and Mohsin Khan managed to scalp one wicket each but could not contain CSK’s firepower as they posted a formidable total of 210 runs on the board.

In their chase of a mammoth total, the LSG openers faltered early, with Quinton de Kock dismissed for a duck and skipper KL Rahul departing cheaply as well. However, the middle-order stepped up to the challenge. Marcus Stoinis, the star of the match, played a valiant knock, scoring his maiden IPL century (124* off 63 balls) to keep LSG in the hunt. Nicholas Pooran provided valuable support with a quickfire cameo.

Despite Matheesha Pathirana’s impressive bowling effort, claiming two wickets for CSK, Mustafizur Rahman struggled to contain Stoinis. In a nail-biting finish, Stoinis took Rahman to the cleaners in the final over that needed 17 runs for victory.

LSG secured a thrilling win, consolidating their position at number four on the IPL points table with five wins from eight matches. They will look to continue their momentum when they face the Rajasthan Royals on April 27th.
