Pakistan’s fast bowler Mohammad Amir’s visa application for the upcoming T20 World Cup prep tour of the UK was delayed due to his past spot-fixing ban.
Pakistan’s preparations for the upcoming T20 World Cup have suffered a setback as star fast bowler Mohammad Amir is facing a visa delay for their tour of the United Kingdom.
According to a source from the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) quoted by the Press Trust of India (PTI), the rest of the squad has received their visas, but Amir’s application is still being processed due to his past involvement in the 2010 spot-fixing scandal.
“Because of the spot-fixing case of 2010 and his subsequent jail term and ban, his visa is still being processed,” the source said, as quoted by News18.
This is not the first time Amir has faced visa issues in the UK. The PCB reported a similar situation occurred in 2018 when Pakistan toured Ireland and England, but Amir eventually received his visa.
Amir, along with former captain Salman Butt and Mohammad Asif, were found guilty of spot-fixing in 2010. They were all jailed by British courts and banned from cricket.
Amir announced his retirement from international cricket in 2020 at the age of 28, citing issues with the then-management. However, with recent changes in the PCB leadership, he changed his decision and returned to the national team.

Amir impressed in the recent T20I series against New Zealand, picking up three wickets in three matches. Pakistan is hoping he will be available for the World Cup, where he played a crucial role in their 2009 T20 World Cup and 2013 Champions Trophy victories.
Pakistan, however, will be setting the stage for their journey to the T20 World Cup, which begins on June 2nd. They will have their first campaign against the United States on June 6th.
