KKR’s Harshit Rana attributed their current top position in the IPL points table to their consistent adherence to the style of cricket advocated by mentor Gautam Gambhir.
KKR’s resurgence under Gautam Gambhir’s mentorship highlighted a return to their former glory, with their recent dominance in the IPL marked by a solid 98-run victory over Lucknow Super Giants, taking them to the top of the points table. Gambhir’s past success with KKR, including two IPL titles and multiple playoff appearances, underscores his invaluable guidance.
Despite a slump in recent years, Gambhir’s re-entry as a mentor has rejuvenated the team’s spirit, emphasizing a strategic approach to the game. Harshit Rana highlighted the team’s focus on Gambhir’s preferred style of play throughout the season, noting his tactical acumen in steering matches in their favor.
“Not only this match, this entire season we have been focussing a lot on the style of cricket that Gautam Gambhir wants us to play. He has a lot of knowledge on how to turn games in our favour and it helps us a lot in the middle. Like today he gave the bowlers a free hand, to find the length to bowl depending on the wicket, and not to try too many things,” Rana said during the press conference.
Harshit Rana’s impactful performance with three wickets for 24 runs played a vital role in KKR’s successful defense of a 235-run target. Despite Mitchell Starc’s expensive spells this season, Rana emphasized the team’s unwavering confidence in the Australian pace ace, citing his invaluable contributions to their recent victory. He also praised Starc’s mentorship and wealth of experience, highlighting his positive influence on the team’s younger players.

“KKR read the wicket very well. The areas we had to bowl, we targeted the right places. My aim is to play for India but whatever franchise I play for I try to give my best on the day of the match. I will be selected based on my performance and performance alone,” Rana concluded.
