CSK’s batting coach Michael Hussey shared an insight on MS Dhoni’s future and his thought process after IPL 2024.
Chennai Super Kings fans are witnessing the familiar sight of MS Dhoni guiding the team in style. The veteran wicketkeeper-batter, who relinquished captaincy duties to Ruturaj Gaikwad at the start of the season, has rediscovered his batting touch, scoring crucial runs at a blistering pace during the death overs. CSK’s batting coach, Michael Hussey, shed light on Dhoni’s preparations for the 2024 IPL, his future, and his current mindset, aiming to explain the resurgence of the cricketing legend fondly nicknamed “Thala.”
Hussey explained how Dhoni might look into things after IPL 2024. “He’s in a fantastic space in his career right now,” Hussey said on the eve of CSK’s home match against the Lucknow Super Giants, as quoted by NDTV. “He seems comfortable, happy, and truly enjoying his cricket. MS has put in a lot of practice and preparation leading up to the tournament. It’s no surprise that bowlers are devising different plans to tackle him, considering he’s arguably the greatest finisher the game has ever seen,” added the coach.
At 42, Dhoni appears to have reinvented himself as a batter. Hussey suggested that the CSK stalwart’s evolution might not be over yet. Dhoni’s current form and mindset certainly hint at the possibility of him continuing beyond the 2024 season.
“The bowlers need to keep coming up with new strategies. That’s the beauty of MS. He’ll find ways to adapt and improve, even at this stage of his career. This makes him a much tougher challenge for bowlers to contend with,” remarked Hussey.

Dhoni, currently boasting an unbeaten streak, has amassed 87 runs in just 5 innings, striking at a staggering 255.88. This return to form has taken a toll on the death bowlers, which is reminiscent of his prime years. He will be seen behind the stumps today, April 23rd, against LSG in Chennai.
