Delhi Capitals’ Head Coach Ricky Ponting expressed his eagerness for their first home game, emphasizing the team’s desire to establish Arun Jaitley Stadium as a strong fortress for the team.
The Delhi Capitals, riding high on two consecutive wins, aim for a hat-trick as they face Sunrisers Hyderabad at Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi on Saturday, April 20. Expressing excitement for their first home game, Head Coach Ricky Ponting emphasized the team’s desire to fortify the stadium as their stronghold.
Ponting also highlighted efforts to improve pitch conditions post-WPL for better gameplay. Meanwhile, their opponents, Sunrisers Hyderabad, have set new records for the highest total twice this season and currently hold the fourth spot in the points table with four wins and two losses in six matches. The coach further welcomed the possibility of a high-scoring game, expressing readiness for a shootout against Sunrisers Hyderabad.
“On the back of the WPL, we wanted to ensure that we had some grass back on and the wickets could potentially play a bit better than they have done for us in the last couple of years. We don’t mind having a shootout tomorrow if it’s a high-scoring game, so be it,” Ponting said.
“We know and expect that they’re going to play the way they’ve played so far in the tournament which has been going hard at the top of the order with the bat, and trying to post a big first innings total. So, we’re happy to try and match them in that. We think we’ve got as good a batting line-up if not better batting line-up than theirs,” he added.

Additionally, Ricky Ponting provided an update on David Warner’s fitness, mentioning he was 85-90% fit a few days ago and expects further improvement. Warner needs to undergo extensive batting practice against fast bowling to ensure his previous pain is alleviated. The Delhi Capitals will face Sunrisers Hyderabad in their next IPL 2024 match at Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi on April 20th, Saturday.
