In IPL 2024, Punjab Kings’ captain Sam Curran was fined 50 percent of his match fees for breaking the IPL Code of Conduct while captain Faf du Plessis was fined INR 12 Lakhs for his team’s slow over-rate.
Following the IPL 2024 matches on Sunday, Punjab Kings’ captain Sam Curran and Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s skipper Faf du Plessis faced heavy fines. RCB clashed with Kolkata Knight Riders at Eden Gardens, missing a win by just 1 run, despite an improved performance.
However, due to a slow over-rate, Faf du Plessis incurred a fine of Rs 12 lakh, as announced by the IPL. This match marked RCB’s first offense of the season regarding over-rate violations.
“Faf du Plessis, Captain, Royal Challengers Bengaluru has been fined after his team maintained a slow over-rate during Match 36 of the TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 against Kolkata Knight Riders at the Eden Gardens, Kolkata on April 21, 2024,” stated an IPL release.
“As it was his team’s first offense of the season under the IPL’s Code of Conduct relating to minimum over-rate offenses, Faf du Plessis was fined INR 12 Lac,” it added.

In Chandigarh’s evening match, Punjab Kings suffered their fourth consecutive loss, bowled out for 142 against Gujarat Titans. Despite their low total, Sam Curran’s side couldn’t defend it as Gujarat chased it down with 5 balls remaining and 3 wickets in hand.
Curran faced consequences for breaching the IPL Code of Conduct, acknowledged as a Level 1 offense under Article 2.8. Accepting the Match Referee’s decision, Curran was fined 50 percent of his match fees.
“Sam Curran, the Punjab Kings captain, has been fined 50 percent of his match fees for breaching the IPL Code of Conduct during his team’s Tata Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 match against the Gujarat Titans at the PCA New International Cricket Stadium, Mullanpur on April 21. Curran committed a Level 1 offense under Article 2.8 of the IPL’s Code of Conduct. He admitted to the offense and accepted the Match Referee’s sanction. For Level 1 breaches of the Code of Conduct, the Match Referee’s decision is final and binding,” the official statement read.
