England’s Stuart Broad became one of the voices who backed Rishabh Pant for his T20 World Cup selection.
Former England fast bowler Stuart Broad came in strongly advocating for Rishabh Pant’s inclusion in India’s T20 World Cup squad. Pant’s impressive comeback from a serious car accident last year has reignited discussions about his potential role in the global tournament.
Broad, known for his fiery spells on the field, has been vocal in his admiration for Pant’s batting skills. Recalling a specific shot by Pant against the Kolkata Knight Riders, Broad stated on Star Sports, “There was a shot I saw him play against KKR, a no-look flick over deep square leg for six. The moment he played that shot, I thought, he has got to be in that T20 World Cup squad. He’s ready. He’s good to go,” as quoted by the Times of India.
However, Broad acknowledged the need for careful management of Pant’s workload. “He has taken a huge amount on. He’s been out of the game for such a long period. He’s captain, he’s wicketkeeper, he’s batting 3, 4, 5. There’s a huge amount on his plate already,” Broad remarked.
To address this concern, Broad proposed a strategic solution, i.e., to utilize Pant as an “Impact Sub” in a few matches. “I’d like to see him be an Impact Sub in a couple of games, take a bit of the workload off his shoulders,” Broad suggested.

Notably, Pant’s return to form has been nothing short of remarkable. After a year-long absence, the Delhi Capitals skipper has seamlessly reintegrated into the team, scoring 210 runs in just seven matches with an impressive strike rate of 156.72, including two crucial half-centuries.
Nevertheless, Broad’s support for Pant highlighted the young cricketer’s undeniable talent and match-winning capabilities. While workload management remains a consideration, Broad’s endorsement adds significant weight to the growing chorus calling for Pant’s inclusion in India’s T20 World Cup squad.
