Suryakumar Yadav opened up after his brilliant, unbeatable match-winning knock against the SRH that helped MI secure a comfortable 7-wicket victory.

Suryakumar Yadav silenced any doubts about his form in IPL 2024 with a blazing 51-ball century at Wankhede Stadium on Monday. His unbeaten 102, his second IPL hundred, powered the Mumbai Indians to a dominant win in just 17.2 overs, chasing down Sunrisers Hyderabad’s 173.

MI’s chase looked shaky after losing three early wickets for 31 runs. But Suryakumar and Tilak Varma stitched together a magnificent unbeaten 143-run stand to script a comprehensive victory. Suryakumar’s entertaining knock was laced with 12 fours and 6 sixes.

Interestingly, Suryakumar Yadav admitted to having some pre-match jitters before his masterclass. Speaking with JioCinema experts Parthiv Patel and Pragyan Ojha after the game, he revealed, “Honestly, my heart was racing. I wasn’t expecting to bat so early. This game is unpredictable, so I was prepared for anything. I knew there would be some deliveries that would swing away. Initially, I wasn’t sure of the plan, but after surviving those early overs, I decided to settle down for the first three and then go for my shots whenever the ball landed in my zone.”

Yadav revealed the secret behind his success under pressure- tough net sessions that simulate real match situations.  “I always consider how I’d bat at 0-2. That’s what I prepare for in the nets. If I finish my nets happy, I know I’ll do well eventually, even if not in every game.”  He pushes himself further, instructing his coaches to “kick me out if I’m gone” during practice. “When I go into the game, I just need to express myself because I’ve faced such situations in the nets,” concluded Yadav. This rigorous preparation allows him to enter the match with confidence, ready to express his skills.

So far, Yadav has amassed 334 runs in the 9 matches he has played, averaging 41.75 at a strike rate of 176.72. He will be next seen playing for MI against KKR on May 11th at the Eden Gardens.
