Mumbai Indians’ star batter Suryakumar Yadav recently updated on his fitness progression after he recovered from multiple injuries to play for his team.
Mumbai Indians batter Suryakumar Yadav addressed his fitness status after a crucial knock against the Punjab Kings on April 18th. Yadav’s return to form was seen after recovering from both ankle surgery and a sports hernia. These injuries forced him to miss the recent T20I series against Afghanistan and raised concerns about his participation in the upcoming World Cup.
However, Yadav assured of his recovery. “It is going really well. I am almost there. I have started fielding. I am also training well, so slow and steady, hoping that all 40 overs I will be on the ground,” said SKY during an interview, as quoted by NDTV.
However, Yadav’s return to action has not been without its drawbacks. Since his comeback, he has scored a duck, a fifty, another duck, and recently, another half-century. “That teaches you there are ups and downs in life,” Yadav reflected on his performance.

This recent knock saw Yadav adopt a more cautious approach compared to his usual aggressive style. He explained his change in strategy. “There was not as much talk going on. Last day we had a batters meeting and decided that there would be a batter who would have to bat at least 15 to 17 overs because, when we had a net session, we felt that it would be a little difficult to get big runs on the board. But I just wanted to be myself. I took a little bit more time today, and after Rohit got out, there had to be a batter who batted a little more. I just continued the way I bat,” said Suryakumar Yadav.
Surya’s inning was crucial for the Mumbai Indians match against PBKS, as he was the top run-getter for his team, scoring 78 runs that helped Mumbai post a challenging total of 192 on the board. MI secured the win by nine runs and now sits in the seventh position on the IPL points table. They will next face RR on April 22nd.
