Former Indian cricketer Wasim Jaffer has revealed his preferred squad for the upcoming T20 World Cup 2024. With the official announcement yet to be made, Jaffer’s picks offer an interesting perspective on potential team selections.
Wasim Jaffer took to X and posted the potential squad for the T20 World Cup, which saw a list of young talents and experienced players.
Jaffer’s squad features Rohit Sharma (captain) and Yashasvi Jaiswal leading the charge. Despite a challenging IPL season for young opener Yashasvi Jaiswal, Jaffer seems to back his international performance. He then selected Virat Kohli at two down and then Suryakumar Yadav, who is known for his aggressive batting style.
The squad features both Rishabh Pant and Sanju Samson, who are currently in top form in the IPL. With both players performing well, it’s likely only one will find a place in the playing XI.
Hardik Pandya and Shivam Dube are Jaffer’s picks for all-rounder roles. While questions remain regarding Pandya’s recent fitness and form, his past record earns him a spot. Shivam Dube, on the other hand, has been a standout batter in the ongoing IPL.
Rinku Singh, known for his finishing skills in recent years, joins the squad as a designated finisher. Ravindra Jadeja, a crucial player for India, is included as a genuine spin-bowling all-rounder.

Jaffer opts for a combination of experience and youth in the bowling department. Jasprit Bumrah, the leader of the attack, is joined by seasoned pacers Mohammed Siraj and Arshdeep Singh. This trio provides a strong bowling line-up, with Bumrah spearheading the attack in the death overs, and Siraj and Arshdeep offering their skills in the powerplay.
Jaffer selects both Kuldeep Yadav, currently the IPL’s leading spinner, and Yuzvendra Chahal, who has also had a successful season. This selection provides India with two quality leg-spinners, offering variety and wicket-taking potential in the middle overs.
However, Jaffer’s selections are solely based on his opinions, and the official squad announcement from the BCCI selection committee is awaited, which will be revealed on May 1st.
