Cricket legend Yuvraj Singh was named the brand ambassador for the upcoming ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024.
Cricket legend Yuvraj Singh is set for a new role as brand ambassador for the upcoming ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024. The 42-year-old joins Chris Gayle and Olympic champion Usain Bolt in promoting the 10-team tournament that kicks off on June 1st in the West Indies and the United States.
Yuvraj Singh’s appointment is a fitting tribute to his T20 legacy, as he played a pivotal role in India’s historic 2007 T20 World Cup victory in South Africa. After the news of his joining as the brand ambassador, Yuvraj expressed his excitement about his new role, particularly looking forward to the passionate atmosphere the West Indies offers and the potential for cricket to grow in the United States. The ICC also reverted with a cordial welcome message for him, appreciating his legacy.
“Some of my fondest cricketing memories have come from playing at the T20 World Cup, including hitting six sixes in an over, so it’s very exciting to be part of this edition, which is set to be the biggest one yet,” said Yuvraj, as quoted by the ICC.
He further acknowledged the positive growth of cricket across the world. “The West Indies is a great place to play cricket, with the fans coming to watch creating a vibe that is completely unique to that part of the world, while cricket is also expanding in the USA, and I’m excited to be part of that growth through the T20 World Cup,” said Yuvraj.
The ICC echoed Yuvraj’s enthusiasm, highlighting the honour of having him as an ambassador. “It’s an honour to have Yuvraj as an ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Ambassador,” stated Claire Furlong, ICC General Manager of Marketing and Communications.
“His name is synonymous with the T20 World Cup, owning one of the event’s most iconic moments when he became the first player to hit six sixes in a T20 international. He joins Chris Gayle and Usain Bolt as the first ambassadors to be announced, who will each add to the excitement of what will be the biggest T20 World Cup ever,” remarked Furlong.
Meanwhile, India will start their ICC T20 World Cup journey by facing Ireland on June 5th, with a marquee clash with Pakistan on June 9th.
