South Africa

South Africa had a good batting display in the first test match which they won by an innings and 12 runs however, for the second match, the batsmen were unable to play proper shots and stay on the crease for long. In the previous 2 test matches, highest scores done by the significant South African batsmen are, Dean Elgar 47, Sarel Erwee 73, Marco Jansen 48, Maharaj 41, Van der Dussen 41 and Peterson 42. None of them have been able to score a century uptil now. The South African batting line-up needs to think about contributing a few more runs by each of them if they want to give England a target which they will have trouble chasing.

As far as the bowling is concerned, Rabada took a total of 7 wickets in the first test match of the series, making it evident that he is South Africa’s star pacer. Second to him, Nortje was able to grab 6 wickets, his efforts were quite important and will be in the upcoming test. The bowlers however couldn’t quite execute their deliveries well in the second match due to which they suffered defeat. South Africa has proved its capability of pressuring and troubling England thus with more confidence and accuracy, the bowlers can make the match for their team.

England had quite the opposite performance of South Africa in both the matches, they suffered a dominant defeat in the first match due to a very low total in the first innings, only 165. Ollie Pope was the only England player who scored above 20, he scored 73. A different England batting line-up was seen in the second test match where centuries were hit by Stokes and Foakes. A score of 415 was enough for England to win the test match. Thus if England continues playing from where they left off, they can give South Africa a tough time.

Stuart Broad and Potts were the star bowlers for the first test match, grabbing 3 wickets each whereas Robinson and Anderson took control of the bowling in the second test match.  England’s pace attack, that too at their home soil is a strong one. South Africa needs to tactically play their deliveries and not lose their wickets early. Anderson and Broad can dismantle their opponents using their years of experience thus it will be an interesting sight to see South African batsmen face them once again.
